No fun at all. I’ll admit I shed a tear or two leaving Elias and Nikki (with Debbie) home alone. It’s been tough in the office all day missing them and the fact that I’m exhausted. It’s not just that I’m tired but it’s that I’m actually doing mentally demanding work. Diaper changes are easy when you’re exhausted, but working with little numbers in smaller boxes is not so fun when you’re this tired.
Beyond that Nikki had a visiting nurse stop by. She checked Elias and he weighed 8lbs 6oz already! Nikki is feeling a bit better but hasn’t gotten much sleep. Elias seems to have a his days and nights closer to normal right now. He’s been up today and fed a bit less last night. Oh, and have I publicly said he’s adorable? Yes, that’s right, my son IS ADORABLE!!!!
Elias testing out the new baby swing:
I’m going to be doing my PAD (photo a day) of Elias now that he’s here… So each day I figured I’d make a post to go with the shot so everyone would see them and have something to check out each day. Todays post is of Elias in his swing. It was one of the gifts we got at the baby shower. He really seems to like it (he also likes car rides, so that gave us the idea to give this a try ASAP). The pose is also priceless. I wonder what he’s dreaming/scheming/planning?
I’m also back at work now… It’s so sad to leave him home when I go to work after the week I had with him. I took the time this morning to take a few quick pictures of him sleeping. He’s just fun to watch sleep. So peaceful.
Day #3 @ work.
Took this on my way out the door this morning. It’s pretty similar to yesterday’s shot, but I doubt I’ll ever get bored with pictures of Elias. I did process this as B+W just for a little variety though.
Last night went OK sleep wise. Dan in real life came out on DVD yesterday and it was filmed in Jamestown at our old neighbors house. So instead of sleeping for an extra couple of hours we watched that. It was good, especially considering the local feel to it. After that Nikki had 3 feeding in the middle of the night, so it wasn’t as good as the night before. Still OK though and we got maybe 5 hours of sleep. Nikki was able to catch 2 naps during the day yesterday which helped out a bunch.
Also Cindy from Nikki’s work was able to make it over last night to see Elias for the first time. It was fun seeing her and her reaction of Elias. After that Andy stopped by for Dinner since we have his wife hostage!
Not such a good night…
Elias and Nikki didn’t have much fun last night… For some reason Elias wouldn’t take Nikki’s milk. He’d feed for a few minutes then stop and start crying. From the DVDs it was the “lower wind” cry so we’d try to get that sorted out. He’d be quiet while in the recommended position, but then as soon as you’d stop he’d start crying again. This went on for well over an hour.
Nikki had another doctors appointment today for herself. They want to change the antibiotic she’s on, but now there is confusion as to whether or not she needs to finish the first one first then take this new one, or take both at once. I have a feeling it’s going to be a long night of phone calls to sort this one out. I’ll tell you one thing. Broadway OBGYN is horrible. The fact that they have 6 doctors sounds good in theory, but you never get the same one twice and once one prescribes something you’ll be lucky if you can ask them any questions about what they did. If you call you’ll speak with someone else who won’t have a clue what the other doctor told/prescribed you. Once we’re done with all this we WON’T be going back there.
Almost a full night’s sleep?
Last night was a very good night all around. Nikki fed Elias around 9pm and took a nap. I stayed up with Elias until a bit after 11pm. By stayed up, I mean I stayed up, keeping him asleep with me. This let Nikki catch a few hours sleep. Nikki then fed him again around 11pm and we all went to bed. Elias only woke up once in the night (around 3am) for a feeding then slept until 7am. This let everyone get a great night’s sleep with minimal interruption. This is largely in part to Nikki’s milk “being in”. She can feed him more efficiently now because she’s making milk more efficiently now. So he feeds less often, gets more milk, and takes less time getting it (so it takes less time to feed too). These are all great things. It’s only the first night with one feeding, though, so who knows if it’s just an exception, not the rule.
Elias also has another routine doctor’s appointment this afternoon. It’s just to weigh him again to make sure he’s “thriving”. It’ll be interesting to see how much he weighs. Last week he was 7lb 14oz on that scale. The nurse that visited Monday had him at 8lb 4oz but on yet another scale. I’m betting 8lb 8oz today, but I’ll update this once it’s official.
Todays shots are from his 7am feeding. He was bright eyed which makes for a nice change of pace for the shots. He also makes a ton of hilarious expressions.
Elias’ first bath!
We gave Elias his first bath tonight! He didn’t like being naked before it, but once we got him in the water he seemed to love it! He spend at least 5 minutes in the water w/o one complaint. When we took him out he was a bit cold, so he did cry a bit until we got him into his very own towel (thanks Jess, it’s adorable!). Once we got him dry he was happy again.
He also made it to his doctor appointment with Nikki and Debbie Friday afternoon. He now weighs 8lbs, 13oz, so +1lb from his birth weight. The doctor was very pleased with that, and he also measured him at 22″ so he’s already grown an inch. He’s still looking “wiry” as my Dad likes to say. He’s got chubby cheeks, but not much else.
To the Ben Jacobsen family:
What a priceless pose by the little man of the house, Elias, It is just great that he will be photographed each day by his Dad.
Are you getting any more sleep?,-I surely hope that you are. Continued good luck with all that you have done to make Elias so very happy.
With Love,
Helen Jane
To the Ben Jacobsen Family:
You do not know how much I enjoy seeing all of the photos of Elias-and notice how much he is growing. No doubt, it is the excellent care that he is receiving from his parents and Grandmother.
Do hope that you will get some rest very soon, now that you have returned to your workplace.
With Love,
Helen Jane
Looking at website with Mother. I read your comments to her, and she said that you sounded so relaxed and comfortable. She really enjoys this. Now we are going backward to see some earlier photos. Talked to Marnie today. She sure is a fan!!
You should rename your site http://www.babyjacobsen.com.
I start my day admiring the newest Yankee fan. He will look great in pin stripes!!
Too… flipping…cute.
I love that his eyes are actually open! 🙂
Hi Andy!!!
Yay! I’m glad you like the towel, I would love a copy of the cute shot of Nikki holding him wearing it (the last one). Maybe in color? Sorry I know you are in a B & W kick but I think the blue and white is cute and with all the nursery colors in the background..Could you send it to me? Glad you got some sleep. We watched the 12 hours of Sebring as well but are really looking forward to the Australian Grand Prix tonight in HD!!! If you are up with Elias you should watch it starts at 10 our time!!!
What a beautiful baby! Congrats!!
he’s definitely a Pisces and a Jacobsen!
