Rangefinder….

ugh…  What to do…  I’ve sold the leica.  I’ve sold the G9 (to my Mom).  I’m now cameraless except for the DSLRs…  I’m looking for something small and compact and easy to use…  So what am I looking at?  RANGEFUNDERS!!!! 😆  Yeah, as in film cameras…  Remember those?  Anyway, I’m looking at a few options as well as the Panasonice LX3 posted below.  The other options are a Voightlander Bessa R4M.  It’s a 35mm film rangefinder that’s awesome because it’s designed specifically for wide shooters.  They have 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 21mm and a bunch of other awesome wide primes available.  That and it’s completely manual…

My other thoughts are a Fuji GW690II with a 90mm F3.5 or a GSW690II with a 65mm F5.6.  I’d prefer the second one as it’s wider but they’re going for ~$900 -vs- the 90mm’s $450…  Both are 6×9 120mm film rangefinders.  I realize they’d be bigger than my 5D and lens, but the size of the negative is very appealing to me.  I’ve been scanning 645 negatives this week and they’re giant, 6×9 is 3 times bigger and the only thing bigger is a 4×5…

  1. fwiw, grab one of the fujis if you can. they’re not all that big and you won’t regret the purchase after seeing the big negs. gsw is worth it if you plan to shoot wide, or if you need a more forgiving depth of field. i haven’t shot the gw, but it’s also an attractive option.
