Well, while on the boat at Block Island this weekend I decided to get up for a sunrise and see what would happen. The biggest issue is you have to approach everything from the water side in the dinghy. Being alone, that made attempting a landing pretty sketchy, nevermind in the dark. I did try first thing in the morning, but I opted out and shot from the dinghy (that first shot is at 3200 and wide open hand held!). My other issue which I realized later is that I’d forgotten my L bracket for my camera (what you attach it to the tripod with) so even if I had made it ashore, I couldn’t have used my tripod anyway… In the end I think I managed to get a few keepers, but it certainly showed me it’s worth going back for more with someone to help with the dinghy and all the parts for the tripod….
