Yeah, so we FINALLY made it out to BLOCK ISLAND for a weekend on avalanche with Elias!!!! Last summer it seemed we just couldn’t get all the details (both schedules and feeling good about Elias sleeping on the boat) sorted out, and now this summer Dad has his surgery that has kept him a bit sidelined… So last weekend while Nikki was in NYC we did the “dry run” to test out his sleeping, and now this weekend we finally made it to Block! Dad’s still not fully up to “healed” status yet (he can’t lift more than 10lbs) so he was going to take the ferry with Nikki and Elias while mom and I took the boat out Saturday morning. Well we got a late start and with not much wind Nikki decided to give avalanche a go (the concern was what would Elias do for ~3+ hours on avalanche while motoring if he didn’t sleep). Well we timed everything perfectly because by the time we were motoring past Castle Hill Elias was out cold in his bunk after having lunch! We motored easily out the rest of the way and Elias slept until we turned the motor off. We then packed up and went to BOTH beaches and he had a blast. Everything else went well the rest of the night and Elias slept aft again and Nikki slept back there with him when she went to bed.
This morning I woke up for the sunrise (check back later for those shots). Then when I got back to the boat, shortly after Elias was up so we all got up and had breakfast. Then it was off to the beach again for the morning. Then back to the boat, Elias was fed, and was put down for the ride back. He managed to sleep almost the entire way home (to beavertail)… This time we woke up w/o a peep and was quietly playing in his bunk w/o any issues while Nikki and I were both napping. All in all it was about a perfect weekend, and Elias did flawlessly again on the boat. I’m sure we’ll be back to block sooner rather than later!
and yes that’s an open mast on top of the WRX… Had to get it to the rigging shop somehow!
