The really right stuff multiclamp is one of those accessories you don’t realize you need, but once you own one it gets used a lot more than you thought it would. We’ve all been there. Some super scenic landscape location, but with a railing telling you not to get any closer. You set your tripod up but you can’t get it right up to the railing with it’s legs open normally. So we lean the tripod against the railing and extend that third leg to wedge it in there a bit. I’ll even stand on that back leg to add some stability and piece of mind that someone else won’t kick it… If only there was a better way….
Enter the multiclamp. You clamp it on that railing. It replaces the tripod scenario above (the waterfall shot from Iceland above was taken from a railing with the multiclamp). You now have your own little world to shoot from without feeling like other people are too close or going to kick your tripod (you do need them to not bang on the railing though causing vibrations). Once you see the use for a multiclamp you start using it in a lot more locations. Street signs and railings are obvious. Tables or furniture will also work at times. For my architecture work I use it for stairways a lot, but will also shoot from the edge of a table or counter at times. I have the flat surface adapter for those uses. The image at the top also shows it on a tripod leg so I could run a timelapse with my second camera (my primary camera isn’t pictured as it was used to take the picture!).
These aren’t inexpensive (nothing really right stuff makes is), but it’s incredibly well designed and built. There are knockoff options on amazon left if that’s more your speed.
