Been a busy few days. Since I’m trying to make photography my full time gig now, I’m trying to get more shots of a lot of the landmarks in Rhode Island. It’s been pointed out to me that a lot of my shots are very similar in that they’ve got “water ‘n rocks” w/o much to let you know where exactly they are. I also know people (including myself) love lighthouses… So Will and I went to Beavertail last friday morning, then I went to Rome Point and hiked down the beach to Plum Beach and grabbed a shot of the lighthouse (that’s also on my license plate!). The Owl shot is something I usually wouldn’t post as it’s terrible quality wise, but it’s a snowy owl here in RI which doesn’t happen that often. I don’t really have the long lenses for shooting birds like that, but I did my best (and also used my waders) and figured I’d share it as well. Enjoy!
Excellent as usual.. I’m curious, where did you spot the owl and was it a chance encounter or has it been reported in the area? I’ve got an 11yo daughter who wants to see one. 🙂
Thanks Mike,
Yes, it’s been known to be in our area for a while now. It’s been at the Sachuest Bird Sanctuary in Middletown RI on the “outer rocks”. I shoot sunrises there often enough I knew what that meant, but ask in the visitors center and they’ll point you in the right direction. If you look at a map, it’s the grouping of rocks out in the water on the north east corner. You also had to be down on the beach to see it, from the path and the viewing platforms he was tucked behind a rock hiding himself.
Good Luck!
Ben
