I’ve been lucky enough to go watch both of the first two days of the America’s Cup World Series down in Newport this week. It’s amazing to see these boats race, they’re so fast and so close! New Zealand capsized around the weather mark yesterday right in front of us. They worked all night and got the boat together for today to give us one of the best fleet races I’ve ever seen. They led Spithill’s Oracle around most of the course, but Jim managed to pass him at the third mark rounding and then again on the last downwind leg. Gybes are VERY expensive in these boats and Spithill took the side that required one less gybe (but one more tack) and also got lucky with the breeze to beat TNZ today. Both Oracle boats won their match races too so they’ll be pitted against each other in the finals Sunday. Can’t wait to see what happens tomorrow with 2 more fleet races and the speed event!
Since when did we start spelling jibe like that? Is that the new school spelling? Amazing shots Ben! Really great! Wish I could have been there!
