Well a new year comes and it’s time to recap 2008. Obviously it’s been a huge year for us with the birth of Elias. It’s been a lot of work, but a ton of fun and we’ve really been enjoying everything about parent hood. He actually is 10 months old TODAY!. I’ve been on vacation the last week and a half and it’s been so much fun taking care of him every day. Some days it’s nothing but fun, others he’s a bit fussy, but each day has been a blast for me being able to be a real dad all day alone. He’s got his third tooth this week (top left for those keeping score) which has made him a bit fussy with his feedings. He’s also almost, kinda sorta, talking? He says “Hiiiiiii” (in this CUTE little southern accent!) when we’re on the phone. He also says “ma ma” and “da da” but it’s more “ma ma ma ma ma” or “da da da da da”…. It’s also sounding like he might have words for Moseley and maybe the cats now (the cat’s he’s always squealed to match their meows anyway). He’s also cruising a TON now… He can do a lap of the living room now from one end of the entertainment center, to the gate, to the chair, to the couch, to the desk…. Not sure when he’ll walk, as he won’t let us help (as soon as he feels our hands he thinks we want to pick him up and his legs go limp). I’m sure we don’t need that happening anytime soon… But he’s also eating “real” food now. He’s basically bored by anything the consistency of normal baby food. So it’s finger foods for him with the exception of eggs, peanuts, shellfish and milk (the major allergens).
What else has happened this year? Well not much really as we’ve been so busy with the little man. Nikki’s job is doing well. Mine is OK, but the economic situation isn’t helping business. I’m very busy, but hopefully sales will pick back up in 2009. We used all our vacation for Elias’ birth, so we’re looking forward to a “real” vacation in 2009 (we’re going to SLC to visit Aunt Jess and Uncle Ben!). We’re also looking forward to doing a bunch more fun things with Elias this coming summer as we’re sure he’ll be more “portable”.
And as for New Year itself? We went out to BAP for an excellent dinner with Nikki’s parents and both her grandparents. Elias came with us and was a perfect gentleman at the table for 2+ hours. Of course there was plenty of family there and we saw Matt, Pat, Ralph, Tina and Mike. Granted we ate early, but Elias still was in a high chair for over 2 hours w/o a single complaint. We had a wonderful dinner and great night falling asleep on the couch before midnight (I guess we really are parents now?). It was very cold (~16º) and windy (~40kts?) but it’s New England, so you gotta love it!
