After selling the 70-200 f4 IS this week I turned that money right into some things I’ve been considering for a while now:

• Sigma 20mm f/1.8 EX DG
• Kata 3n1-30 sling bag/backpack
• GoPro 5 wide motorsport kit w/ bike kit

The sigma will be interesting to play with.  My 24L is my most used lens by a pretty large margin.  I love it, but I LOVE wide fast primes, so the siggy coming in at 20mm and costing much less, I couldn’t not try it.  It should be an interesting lens to play with.  So far the finish is better than I’d remembered.  The lens cap is an awesome center pinch design.  It focuses quick enough and isn’t too loud.  The clutch is weird, sure, but nothing I can’t adjust to.


The kata is an awesome implementation on the sling idea.  You can very quickly get to your gear they way they designed the zippers.  You can also wear it 2 strapped, drop one and sling/swing on the second so it’s comfortable and NOT crossed but still quick access.  We’ll see if I can get into a bag like this and use it, but it’s defiantly a good sling design which I think I’ll like.


The go pro is a lot nicer than I thought it would be.  For $200 you get a rad waterproof housing, a tiny 5mp camera with a FE lens on it, and some rad attachment options.  I picked up the motorsports version which comes with the suction cup and some interesting other options.  I also got the bike accessory which allows me to bolt it onto seat posts or handle bars.  It should be interesting to see what I can come up with using it in terms of photos, sequences and or movies, but I have plenty of ideas.  The fact it’s waterproof AND the suction cup will work on the car, my skis, my snowboard AND the boats is promising, then with the bike attachement I’ll have enough things to keep myself entertained.  For the money it should easily earn a spot in the bag, and with the new mac it should be useful for making some fun movies/DVDs.
