Yes it’s a relic, yes it’s designed in the 80s (but mine was made in 1996, the year I graduated HS!), yes it’s been replaced 3 times, but you know what, I LOVE IT!!! It’s a 2.8 constant zoom, but it’s not very big at all. It’s actually smaller than the 17-40L although a bit heavier. I’ve been loving the feeling of the 24L in terms of size and weight and this comes pretty close. I’ve also been contemplating 2.8 zooms now that I have the workable high ISOs with the 5Dii… So instead of selling/trading the 24-105 for a 24-70, I figured I’d try this first to see how it goes considering it’s smaller, lighter, CHEAPER, and also wider. Yeah it’s long end is limited, but I like wides and it’s basically a 20, 24, 28 and 35mm lens. I’ve owned all 3 of those wider FLs in primes and have considered the 35mm, so this is a fun way to try all those in one and see if I really need my primes, if I should add more 2.8 zooms, or god knows what.
You’ll also notice some shots in here taken with the tokina 11-16 on the 5Dii. At least the non canon lenses that are designed for croppers work on FF bodies w/o doing damage…
I had this lens and loved it….but had to sell it for the $. 🙁
