Happy Birthday Elias Andrew Jacobsen!

Well he’s here!!! Elias Andrew Jacobsen was born at 8:43pm on Sunday. He weighed in at 7lbs 13oz and has yet to be measured (they wait until they stretch a bit). He was grunting when he was born so he did have to take a trip to the NICU for an hour. He recovered as well as could be expected and met us all at the door when we went to see him meaning he was released to our room immediately. He’s now in his pram in his room as I type this and is adorable!

Labor was not w/o its issues for Nikki. The biggest being how long it took. Her contractions started at 11:30pm Saturday night. We arrived at the hospital Sunday at 2:00am. Elias didn’t arrive until 8:43pm after a long day of contractions and Pitocin to ensure Nikki proceeded as needed. She pushed like a champ to get Elias out into the world.

We’re both exhausted right now (it’s 2:20am Monday) but we can’t seem to stop looking at him. Nikki’s also getting checked up on by the nurses, and I’ve gotten the first dirty diaper (tarry is an understatement) which was put on well enough no one pointed out the mistakes. It’s going to be a wonderful learning experience for us for the next 18~30 years, and we’re really looking forward to it.

Day2: I know a lot of you are wanting updates/info/pictures. This is a quick update while I’m home. I’m home for about ~30 minutes to take a shower and feed the cats. (They won’t let me shower at the hospital.) I figured while I was here I’d add a few new photos and a quick video of Elias as well as update everyone one our Status. Nikki is doing well. She’s still exhausted (as am I but she’s working much harder than I am with feedings and labor!). She’s walking and go use the facilities on her own at this point (after an epi they’re very cautious). Elias is doing very well. He’s been in our room with us the entire time except for a few quick tests they do in other rooms (hearing and something else routine). He’s breast feeding pretty well and is very tired from the long delivery and not being 24 hours old yet. I’m tired but doing great as a proud Dad! Anyway, I’m off to the hospital again, enjoy some new shots (the first 7 are from last night, the second 7 are from today).

  3. ben, nikki–congratulations! once you witness a birth first hand you realize what a miracle it really is… all of a sudden there’s a little human being in the world who wasn’t there a few minutes before. this is the start of a sometimes stressful, sometimes painful, but always totally rewarding journey for your new family. good luck and good health to the three of you!

  4. Wow! Oh Nikki, it sounds like it was quite an ordeal. I don’t know if GOOD JOB covers it, but CONGRATULATIONS!!! He is BEAUTIFUL! Your mom was right, there is some red in that hair. Enjoy your first day as MOM and DAD :>

He’s absolutely gorgeous! Welcome to the world, little surfer!
It’s a good thing they put an ankle bracelet on him – there’s still snow on the slopes and they might find him trying to head for the nearest ski lift with a pair of tongue depressors under his little arms. I’m sure he’ll be one of the best and most beautifully documented babies ever.

    with Love,
    Lars

  12. Congratulations to you all!! He’s so adorable, I can’t wait to see more pictures and to meet the little guy. You did it Nikki; he looks as healthy as can be. I can’t believe how long his hair is already and do I see some red/strawberry blonde in there??? So cute. I’m already thinking he looks like your dad, Nikki, so my guess is Elias will have more your looks and Ben’s personality!

Anyhow, cheers to you and your parents…a new journey has begun…have fun and enjoy the ride!

    love,

    Danielle
