Panasonic announced a new P&S I’m very interested in. It’s the Lumix DMC-LX3 which is an update to the LX2. The LX2 is the pannasonic version of my Leica D-Lux 3… It’s improvements are LESS MP, a LARGER sensor and a 24-60mm f/2.0 lens. So I’d lose a tad on the long end, but I’d pick up 4mm on the wide end AND a stop faster… The interesting thing to me is they’re saying the sensor is bigger, but I’m pretty sure the sensor is the same size at my D-Lux 3, it’s just bigger than the typical P&S… I’m hoping it is bigger (and I’m missing something) as that will help the noise a ton. I like the leica now, but I wish is was wider and faster. So if I can swap cameras (the Leica’s hold their value very well) for not much $ I’ll do it just for the wider faster lens. It retain OIS which is good. The new camera also has an add on .75 UWA adapter making it a 18mm effective FL. The other camera I’m considering to replace my D-Lux 3 is the rumored canon G10, but until it’s announced/release I’m not holding my breath (it’s rumored to have a wider faster lens this time around too).
